OUR YEAR IN ELDORET

ABOUT US
Lauren and Cody are fourth year medical students and recent MPH and PhD grads from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill and Duke University, respectively. Though we planned to return to medical school in the Summer of 2018, one serendipitous thing led to another and we found ourselves moving to Kenya just shy of our fifth month wedding anniversary. We are beyond thrilled to finally be here and are forever grateful to our family, friends and mentors who gave us the courage to actualize this lifelong dream and embrace the road less traveled.

For the next year, we will pursue research fellowships with AMPATH/Moi University Teaching and Referral Hospital. Lauren is working with the Population Health and Maternal Newborn and Child Health teams on the Chama cha MamaToto program - a network of 700 mothers participating in community health volunteer led peer support groups - and the adolescent reproductive health program. Cody is working with the Duke Global Health Malaria group on several diagnostic and rural laboratory capacity building projects.

We love the outdoors and great food! While in Kenya, we hope to bag a few peaks, explore our incredible backyard, expand our stomachs to successfully finish an entire portion of ugali, and master the art of chapati making.
